Cognition / Memory / Executive Functioning

We provide speech and language therapy for children and people who have difficulties with communication.

What is Speech and Language Therapy?

Speech and language therapy addresses areas of cognition including areas of attention, concentration, orientation, word retrieval, and executive functioning skills such as problem solving and reasoning.

Parkwood clinicians are happy to work with your child’s pediatrician, developmental psychologist, and related service providers to provide holistic care to those with pre-existing diagnoses related to areas of need.

Parkwood clinicians support clients by targeting cognition, memory and executive functioning skills through direct strategy instruction, with the goal of helping clients reach independence with strategy use. Clinicians utilize evidence-based programs and approaches to do so, including:

  • Spaced retrieval training (SRT)
  • Direct attention training
  • Metacognitive strategy instruction
  • External aid selection and instruction
